Hunan Daily, October 17th (All-media reporter Meng Jiaoyan) Today, Huadian Anselmi Mittal Automotive Plate Co., Ltd. (VAMA) released a statement, saying that since its production began in 2014, its development momentum has remained strong and its competitive strength has significantly increased. It has now become a leader in the domestic automotive steel industry.
VAMA is currently the largest Sino-foreign joint venture in Hunan Province. It was jointly established by Hunan Iron and Steel Group and ArcelorMittal Group. Zhou Jian, the general manager and CEO of VAMA, introduced that on June 6, 2014, the first coil steel of VAMA was successfully rolled off the production line. Immediately thereafter, the local mass production of the second-generation advanced high-strength steel and hot-formed ultra-high-strength steel was initiated, contributing to the iterative upgrading journey of China's automotive manufacturing industry.
Facing the challenge of the automotive industry's transition towards a green and low-carbon direction, in April 2023, the third-generation high-strength steel project of VAMA was put into production. A new galvanizing production line was built, and the annual production capacity of VAMA's full range of automotive steel exceeded 2 million tons.
Based on local production, currently VAMA has achieved the development and production of a full range of automotive steel products, from advanced high-strength steel to ultra-high-strength steel, and then to automotive outer panels. The product structure has become increasingly complete, and many products have filled the domestic market gap. Automotive plates can supply 90% of the components of domestic passenger car white bodies, and have become an important supplier for many leading new energy vehicle manufacturers.
Over the past ten years, VAMA has consistently pursued innovation as its driving force, setting new industry standards. Currently, it has 14 global R&D centers and invests over 250 million US dollars annually in research and development. VAMA's locally developed high-strength level hot-formed steel has the highest market share in China.
Professor Zhao Pei, an advisor of the China Metallurgical Society, stated that VAMA integrates high-quality upstream substrate supply, a localized production network, and the world's most advanced automotive steel technologies. The "Made in China 2025" strategy has designated "energy conservation and new energy vehicles" as one of the ten development areas. VAMA will also intensify efforts to develop specialized steel for new energy vehicles, such as lightweight steel for vehicle bodies and high-strength steel for battery protection components, to continuously support the development of the new energy vehicle industry.
